Closure of the Scottish Sports Horse

At the recent EGM called by the Scottish Sport Horse studbook (SSH), it was agreed with immediate effect, that the studbook and its administration would be taken over by Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain (SHB(GB)). All SSH graded stallions and graded mares will be incorporated into the SHB (GB) studbook. "This was not an easy decision and of course we are sad to lose the studbook but the implementation of new DEFRA legislation, combined with fewer registrations and ever increasing costs, meant we had to recognise that realistically the SSH was no longer viable," said SSH director Jackie Low-Mitchell of Balcormo Stud, who with her late husband Dugald, was one of the founders of the studbook, inaugurated in 1990. "SHB(GB) Chairman Jennie Loriston Clarke said. "We welcome all SSH members and look forward to working with Scottish breeders who have bred and produced many lovely and successful horses and we intend to start by arranging grading dates for mares and stallions in Scotland later in the year."
